In January 2024, the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) announced the Education Freedom Alliance (E.F.A.) launch. This announcement coincided with the conclusion of National School Choice Week. The Education Freedom Alliance represents a coalition of diverse organizations united by a singular goal: upholding parents' rights in choosing the educational path that best suits their child's needs.
At its core, the Education Freedom Alliance champions the belief that education should be tailored to the student, not solely to fit within a predefined system. Therefore, its mission is to expand parental rights and advocate for educational freedom for all parents and students. This objective aligns closely with ALEC's ambitious 25 by '25 initiative, which aims to secure educational freedom in 25 states by 2025.
During the launch event, Director of the ALEC Education and Workforce Development Task Force Andrew Handel emphasized the universal benefits of educational freedom. Handel stressed that providing parents with options - whether through public, private, charter, home, or virtual schooling - ultimately serves the interests of states, schools, parents, and, most importantly, students. Additionally, ALEC CEO Lisa B. Nelson announced strategic partnerships across America to ensure every student can access the highest quality education.
